One of the most common questions I get is "Where can I find videos of the movies listed?"
The answer is "It depends." Some of them aren't available on video - yet.
The first place to check is your local video store.
If you have a choice of local places to check:
The best are the independent locally-owned stores. While they normally don't have 10,000 copies of the latest release like the big chain stores, they tend to have a larger selection of older and foreign movies. They will often have videos that are now in very limited release or no longer offered.
Your next choice would be the "big boys", Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and the likes. If you're looking for a nude scene in a recent release, they'd be the place to start. They also stock older movies and often have the resources to order some of the lesser known videos.
Next would be some of the on-line video stores.
Some offer only videos for sale, others also offer rental by mail and other services:
Amazon.com
They now in addition to books offer videos and DVDs. As well
as music and other stuff for sale.
The Facets Multi-Media Web Site
They offer videos for rent-by-mail as well as for sale and carry a lot of the hard
to find independant, foreign and art films. Their rental price is a bit steep, but if it is hard to find
they most likely will have it.
CDworld
Discount Entertainment Store
They sell movies on tape, laserdisc and DVD. They also
have a large selection of music CDs, vinyl records, sheet music and
computer/console games.
VIDEOFLICKS.com
They have a large selection of videos for sale and also
maintain a classified ad section for people interested in buying/selling/swapping
hard to find videos.
Reel | The Planet's Biggest Movie Store
They use to offer videos for rent, but after being taken over by Hollywood Video they now
only offer them for sale.
They do however offer a large selection of rare movies.
THEY NO LONGER OFFER VIDEO RENTAL BY MAIL.
Search the movie magazines:
Pick up a couple of movie magazines at your local book store. You should find quite a few ads for companies that sell videos and several that will rent videos by mail.
Finally, check the premium cable
channels:
Some of the cable channels are specializing in older or lesser seen movies.
Encore is probably the best known of them, offering several theme channels such as Action, Romance and Westerns. With them having to dig deeper in the film vaults to keep fresh material on the theme channels they tend to show movies that weren't big in theatrical release, but are still of interest because of who had a nude scene in it.
Starz! offers several channels of programming and has a mix of recent releases and older movies.
The Sundance Channel offers many independant and foreign films that tend to show more nudity then the mainstream Hollywood releases.
The Independant Film Channel, while implying that they carry a lot of independant films, seems to carry many foreign films and is a good source.
The above advice applies in most cases.
If you're in a rural area and do not have ready access to a video store or
a selection of video stores, your options are limited to renting buy mail.
If you have had a favorable experience with rent by mail companies, on-line or not,
let me know so that I can share the information
with other movie fans.
